Vehicles and Equipment

JSAR relies on the support of the community through its fundraising efforts, occasional key donations and the support of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Because of donations and JCSO’s partnership, JSAR is able to operate a pair of vehicles equipped to perform its mission.

Volunteer members are primary outfitted with gear and equipment that they purchase and maintain themselves, but all technical-rescue equipment and some safety equipment is owned by JSAR for use by volunteers.

JSAR operates two vehicles, including a former ambulance now outfitted with a wide variety of backcountry rescue equipment. The current ambulance was furnished by JCSO to replace the previous ambulance in 2018.
The Tacoma is more maneuverable and contains a smaller set of equipment — enough to equip an interagency rescue in the front country or to get a backcountry mission started. This vehicle was donated to JSAR in 2018.
This set of inReach satellite communicators, part of a significant donation to JSAR in 2018, allows three teams to communicate with the Incident Command Post when beyond portable-radio coverage.
12.5mm and 11mm rescue ropes (hundreds of feet of each), MPDs and other rigging gear, litters, webbing, helmets, snow shoes, radios, computers, medical supplies and more are maintained by JSAR and ready for quick deployment in the ambulance and Tacoma.
